NEMPAC returns with red coats to Boston’s Historic Faneuil Hall for three nights of opera

NEMPAC Opera Project presents Rossini’s La Cenerentola on June 23 – 25th, 2016

The North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) invites guests to Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall, transforming The Great Hall into an 18th century loyalist British countryside through a night of opera featuring Rossini’s La Cenerentola.

The NEMPAC Opera Project presents La Cenerentola, a two act opera sung in Italian with English surtitles. La Cenerentola turns Cinderella on its head with an evil stepfather, bouts of mistaken identity and most of all, the triumph of good.

The production is musically directed by Dr. Tiffany Chang and directed by Stage Director, Rebecca Miller. It will feature a chamber orchestra, a professional cast of singers and choristers and, unique to this production, NEMPAC’s youth students featured in the specially choreographed overture.

The NEMPAC Opera Project, founded in 2012, continues its annual tradition of presenting a fully staged opera in one of Boston’s most historic venues. Thriving in non-traditional spaces, NEMPAC is proud to call Faneuil Hall- The Great Hall their home as they return there for their 4th consecutive year.

“In so effectively reaching a new audience, the NEMPAC Opera Project scored an important victory for opera in the 21stcentury, helping to secure the genre’s survival into the future.” – The Boston Musical Intelligencer, July 1, 2015.

Special to this project is the NEMPAC community outreach performance in the Christopher Columbus Park scheduled for Sunday, June 26th at 4:30 p.m. This performance features a semi-staged version of La Cenerentola in the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. In an effort to make Opera affordable to all, this event is free and open to the public.

Thanks to our sponsors who have made this production possible including NorthEndBoston.com, Friends of the Christopher Columbus Park, TD Bank, Greater Tacoma Community Foundation and Andrea and Arthur Waldstein.
