Born the middle child in a military family\, Leo spent his early life moving all around the country. He received a Bachelor’s in Vocal Performance from Georgia State University in 2015. He spent the year as an assistant in a Middle School choir\, teaching private voice lessons to the young and young at heart alike before moving to Boston in 2016. There\, he  attended The Longy School of Music at Bard College and graduated with a Master’s in Historical Performance in 2018. He has called Boston home ever since.  \nLeo’s musical practice spans from singing Renaissance sacred motets all the way to modern opera. He has performed in the world premieres of Reap What You Soul (Guy) and The Bedbug (The Reporter) with Promenade Opera Project\, the world premiere of NIGHTTOWN (Buck Mulligan) with Lowell House Opera\, and a touring production of Mr. Twister (Bobby)\, an opera for children. When not singing and writing\, Leo can often be found listening to Steely Dan or watching bees in his flower garden. \nNina Evelyn Anderson\nHailed as “powerful” and “ready for primetime\,” Black American soprano Nina Evelyn’s mission is to diversify the classical music canon by promoting and performing the works of Black composers. Upcoming performances include singing the role of Monisha in Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and a concert with Heritage Chorale featuring the music of Florence Price and Margaret Bonds. In 2022\, Nina triumphed in her mainstage debut with Boston Conservatory at Berklee as the title role in Floyd’s Susannah\, a production that was named a “standout performance of 2022 in Boston” by WBUR radio. Previous engagements include performances as Contessa Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Boston Conservatory\, Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen with Opera North\, and Ms. Chen in the world premiere of Jorge Sosa’s Monkey: A Kung Fu Puppet Parable. SUMMARY:Jazz Night with Sounds of Italy: Scanzonati
DESCRIPTION:Sounds of Italy is a musical festival celebrating Italian music excellence in the Greater Boston area. The inventive and contemporary vision of young Italian talents living in the United States blends with the rhythmic and harmonic roots of the Bel Paese\, with a clear American jazz influence — a mix that generates a new way of making \nmusic. A concept developed by Pescara-native singer and composer Stefano Marchese\, Sounds of Italy was made possible with the collaboration and support of big names on the international music scene such as Marco Pignataro\, Andrea Pejrolo\, and Tino D’Agostino\, as well as the Consul General of Italy in Boston\, and Bostoniano founder Nicola Orichuia. Since its first edition\, more than 200 artists have participated to the past 3 editions\, including international artists such as Chiara Civello\, Riccardo Del Fra and George Garzone. The audience members will be offered a taste of the elective affinities of the Mediterranean spirit mixed in with the innovative outlook of jazz. \nChildren’s Programming: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.\n(rain location: St Stephen’s Church)

SUMMARY:Swing Favorites in the Park: Eight to the Bar
DESCRIPTION:Listening to Eight to the Bar is a lot like driving along a time-warped highway precisely halfway between Count Basie’s Kansas City and Fats Waller’s Harlem\, where the car radio picks up everything from Jumpin’ at the Woodside to The Andrews Sisters. Their material\, like their outlandish wardrobes and onstage choreo\, is a colorful mix of forties jazz and swing\, fifties jump blues\, and their own swing-influenced tunes. With their female vocals\, saxophone (their sax player\, Collin Tilton is the original sax and flute player In Van Morrison’s band\, and appears on Morrison’s quadruple-platinum-selling Moondance album)\, guitar\, bass\, keyboards and drums\, this unique sextet pack a musical and visual wallop not seen in New England since the group’s inception in 1975. Since that time they have released 12 CDs and have excited audiences from Europe to the Caribbean. The band has been named “Best Band 2014” by Hartford Magazine and recently had the honor of touring the Republic of Georgia (near Russia) at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy there. Currently the group has just released its 12th CD\,Bring It & Swing It! (rain date / location: Tues July 26th\, The Prado)
