SUMMARY:Jazz in the Park - Debo Ray ***CONCERT MOVED INDOORS TO CANOPY HOTEL***
DESCRIPTION:Debo Ray is a Grammy-nominated singer and composer whose music blends joy\, authenticity\, and emotional depth. ***PLEASE NOTE: THIS CONCERT IS BEING MOVED INDOORS***  \nRaised in the Boston area by Haitian immigrant parents\, she found belonging through music after struggling with identity. She began performing at age four in Haitian churches and later trained at the Handel and Haydn Society\, New England Conservatory Prep\, and Berklee College of Music\, where she developed her signature “sound weaving” style. \nNow performing in five bands and singing in 37 languages\, Debo has collaborated with artists like Bobby McFerrin\, Esperanza Spalding\, and Terri Lyne Carrington\, and appeared at Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center\, and the Hollywood Bowl. She is also a voice professor at Berklee\, mentoring the next generation. \nGrounded by bodybuilding and focused on original work\, Debo’s mission is to create music that fosters joy\, connection\, and release. \n“This album marks a change in my creative life. After many years of interpreting the music of others\, I decided to put my life\, in all its complexity\, out there in hopes that others might feel some of the same things and we could connect\, and maybe I could bring some joy and peace. It’s been a bit daunting as I’ve always been reluctant to be too “out there” with my feelings but very rewarding thus far\, and I’m changing for the better in many ways as a result.” \nHer music invites listeners to embrace their uniqueness and find joy in sound. \nRead more about Debo Ray \nPERFORMANCE DETAILS:\nWhen: Thursday\, July 30th from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM\nVenue: Rose Town Kitchen and Bar at the Canopy by Hilton Boston Downtown \nAddress: 99 Blackstone St\, Boston\, MA 02109\nFREE! \n \nExperience the magic of live jazz under the open sky with NEMPAC’s Jazz in the Park series. SUMMARY:Jazz in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Cettina Donato is an internationally acclaimed classical and jazz pianist\, composer\, arranger and conductor. Her highly original work often blurs the lines between genres: from jazz to classical\, and from symphonic music to theatrical music. In 2011\, while based in Boston (MA\, USA)\, Donato formed the Cettina Donato Orchestra\, a full size jazz big band with a string quartet featuring musicians from all over the world.  Across the ocean\, in Italy\, Donato is the only woman who conducts classical symphony orchestras performing a jazz repertoire while also contributing her own arrangements as well.  Cettina Donato conducted the Bari Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra (Bari\, Puglia)\, the Vittorio Emanuele Symphony Orchestra (Messina\, Sicily)\, the Lucca Jazz Orchestra (Lucca\, Tuscany)\, the Molfetta Youth Symphony Orchestra (Bari\, Puglia)\, the New Talents Jazz Orchestra (Rome). Along with her many large ensemble works\, she has regularly collaborated in a trio and quartet setting (as a bandleader) with some of the most renowned musicians of the international jazz scene (Eliot Zigmund\, Stefano Di Battista\, Fabrizio Bosso and many others). Donato was awarded the prestigious JazzIt prize (Italy) as Best Arranger in 2013\, 2016\, 2018 and 2019. In 2017 Donato released Persistency-The New Project featuring drummer Eliot Zigmund. Donato’s other works were released in 2008 (Pristine\, Cettina Donato Quintet)\, 2012 (Crescendo\, Cettina Donato Orchestra)\, 2015 (Third\, Cettina Donato trio)\, 2019 (Piano 4 Hands)\, 2021 (I Siciliani -Vero Succo Di Poesia-). Donato’s 7th new project\, called MITO\, came out in May 2023. It’s a concept album about the Greek Myth: the proofs of life in our times are rooted in the myth that unveils itself\, and therefore is topical\, precursor of contemporary society. Stories made of blood\, passions\, of what is rational and irrational\, gods that descend to earth to save human beings\, or equally to ruin their lives only because of their own idleness or indolence. There is no emotion of which the myth does not tell through its characters. Donato graduated from Berklee College Of Music (Boston\, MA\, USA) with degrees in Jazz Composition and from Conservatory “A. Corelli”\, Sicily (Italy) in Classical Piano\, Jazz Music\, Musical Didactic\, from University of Messina in Social Psychology. Donato’s artistic career is accented by teaching Jazz Piano courses at the Conservatory “N. Piccinni” in Bari (Puglia\, Italy). \nPERFORMANCE DETAILS:\nWhen: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM\nVenue: Rose Kennedy Greenway | North End Parks\nAddress: Corner of Cross Street & Hanover Street\nFREE! \n \nExperience the magic of live jazz under the open sky with NEMPAC’s Jazz in the Park series. SUMMARY:Jazz in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Nadia Washington rises to any occasion as a songwriter\, producer\, and educator and vocalist. Her talent has opened up opportunities to perform with renowned artists in Jazz and R&B including: Esperanza Spalding\, Lalah Hathaway\, Dianne Reeves\, Terri Lynn Carrington and the late George Duke – as well as making an impact with movers and shakers in the Hip Hop World including Ray Angry of the Root\, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dj Mark De Clive-Lowe. Born and raised in Dallas\, TX\, Nadia began showing signs of an entertainer at the age of 3 to a mother who was an acclaimed singer in her own right. As far back as she could remember\, she was surrounded by some of the premiere musicians of the Dallas Metroplex. Nadia is an alumna of Booker T. Washington HSPVA where she could learn more about the music that mesmerized her. Attending this school led her to many more opportunities that gave her national recognition – winning 2 DownBeat Student Music Awards and the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts. In 2006\, she received The Monterey Jazz Festival Outstanding Jazz Vocalist award and participated in the Grammy Jazz Ensemble. Nadia was then accepted to Berklee College of Music on the Bill Cosby Presidential Scholarship. While in college\, she was experimenting with the Latin and Brazilian sounds she heard in jam sessions and in the classroom. A providential moment occurred when she heard the sounds of Rosa Passos for the first time. The following summer\, Nadia taught herself to play Brazilian guitar. Upon completing college\, Nadia returned home for a year to spend time with her family\, Nadia began to rediscover the sounds of her hometown\, Dallas TX. All the knowledge she accumulated in college as well as her musical roots began to coalesce to fit her unique personality and musical taste. After moving back to Boston\, Nadia released two youtube videos to share her new sound with friends and family. Little did she know that it would spark the interest in world renowned musicians such as Nicolas Payton and Ms. Dianne Reeves. Nadia had the privilege to collaborate with Dianne Reeves and Terri Lynn Carrington to create a song called “Feel So Good” featuring the late George Duke on the Beautiful Life Album That won best Jazz vocal Album 2015 at the Grammy Awards. Nadia has also toured Russia\, and Europe and has performed in Africa\, and Japan. Along with performing in the New England area\, she is now a faculty member in the Ear Training and Voice Department at Berklee College of Music.
