St. John School held their Annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 5th in front of a packed Sacred Heart Church audience. The K3 through Grade 8 students performed the annual holiday event with traditional Christmas songs as well as a few performance numbers.
Much to the delight of the audience, the repertoire performed this year included both traditional Christmas Songs and even more challenging choral pieces. The younger students performed and sang a wonderful array of traditional Christmas Songs including Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Joy to the World, and Angels We Have Heard on High. The upper grades, performed works including “Siyahamba”, a Traditional Zulu song, and “Wings of a Dove”, a Traditional Spiritual. Closing the concert was a heart-felt performance from the Middle School Choir in their performance of “Bashana Haba’ah”, a Hebrew Song, and “Dona Nobis Pacem”.
“The students have been diligently practicing their songs and performances for the last couple of weeks,” stated Principal, Karen McLaughlin. “NEMPAC and our students did an amazing job with the concert; it was truly a wonderful way to ring in the holiday season.”
NEMPAC Director, Sherri Snow, comments “The student’s enthusiasm for music was mirrored through their performances today, and the commitment towards in-school music programming at the St. John School is one to be recognized.”
Our students were under the direction of NEMPAC’s Aimee Birnbaum who teaches K – Grade 2, and Alexandra Dietrich, who conducts Grade 3, Grade 4+ 5 Chorus, and the Middle School Chorus.
Great job everyone for a wonderful concert!
