SUMMARY:Flower & Ash: A Post-American Concert
DESCRIPTION:Part of NEMPAC’s collaborative new Artist Series\, Flower & Ash: A Post-American Concert is an evening of original\, folk-inspired song. No ordinary setlist\, the night marks the full band debut performance of songs from a new musical still in progress (“Flower & Ash”). Unlike a traditional musical\, the folk/roots band of Flower & Ash delivers a concert experience that compliments the action onstage and can also stand on its own\, as it will at City Winery. Through the vibrant\, character-rich music\, we are transported to the world of a dystopian America born of violent political differences. In the play\, the post-apocalyptic story chronicles an epic journey of two 20-somethings—Flower and Ash—who discover the true meaning of survival. Reflections of the adventurous\, soul-searching narrative weave their way throughout this Post-American Concert. \nTHE PROCESS OF CREATING FLOWER & ASH – in the words of creator Mike Descoteaux \nFlower & Ash is a vigorous push-back against the hardening of hate and vitriol in our culture. We’re shining a spotlight on the power of compassion through storytelling that is as fun as it is pointed. We’re combining music\, theater\, and storytelling in unique ways. We’re asking folk music to do what it’s always done: change the world\, if just a little bit. Our show explores the tribal wasteland of a dystopian America born of violent political differences and the resulting anarchy. Amidst the literal and figurative rubble arises a truly American story of resurrection and connection. Unlike a traditional musical\, our folk/roots band delivers songs that create a concert experience alongside the action onstage. In fact\, the concert can stand alone as a live album\, reflecting on the themes explored in the narrative—freedom\, identity\, sexuality\, religion\, and what it means to be American.  \nOn the road to a first full production\, we are thrilled to partner with NEMPAC and City Winery in presenting the debut performance of the complete song-set of FLOWER & ASH with a band of talented musicians. Songwriter and playwright\, Mike Descoteaux\, will provide narrative highlights between songs for audience members to engage with the story beyond the music. After the concert\, everyone is invited to discuss their experience with the artists. \nThis concert presents folk songs from a dystopian future: \nMike Descoteaux: (songwriter\, piano\, vocals)\nMcCoy Plaisted: (drums\, vocals)\nCasey Murray: (cello\, guitar\, vocals)\nLila Blue: (guitar\, banjo\, vocals)\nPearl Scott: (vocals)\nCameron Kirkpatrick: (fiddle) \nDATE: Thursday\, April 16th @ 7:30 PM to 9 PM | Doors open at 6 PM for drinks and dinner \nVENUE: City Winery Boston | Haymarket Lounge \nADDRESS: 80 Beverly St\, Boston\, MA 02114 \nTICKETING: Stage Premiere: $42 – sold out!   General Admission: $30 \nPurchase Tickets Here! \nWe are also offering the opportunity to sponsor an artist or sponsor one of the three concerts. Please reach out to Will Neely at wneely@nempacboston.org or 857 239 9997 if you are interested. \n\n\n  \n \n\n \n \n \n\nABOUT MIKE DESCOTEAUX (SONGWRITER\, PIANO\, VOCALS):  Mike Descoteaux (he/him) is a songwriter and performer with over 25 years in the music industry. SUMMARY:The Reign of Her: An Exploration of the Feminine Sound
DESCRIPTION:Part of NEMPAC’s collaborative Artist Series\, we invite you to experience the power of the feminine sound in Classical Guitar.  In the world of classical music\, the feminine sound is too often misunderstood—labeled as “incorrect” when in truth\, it is simply unique. Resonant\, expressive\, and shaped by a distinctly female perspective\, this sound brings new energy\, technique\, and imagination to the stage. \nJoin us for a transformative concert that redefines what classical guitar can be. Led by a groundbreaking woman in the field\, these concerts spotlight authentic music from a woman’s perspective\, inviting audiences to experience the guitar as a powerful vessel for feminine artistry. \nThrough this concert\, we will explore: \n\nThe rich textures and emotional depth of the feminine sound\nThe differences and intersections between male and female approaches to classical guitar\nThe inclusive\, universal nature of the guitar—an instrument that connects across ages\, genders\, cultures\, and languages\n\nMore than a performance\, this is a movement to modernize classical guitar and expand its audience. You’ll be part of a bold reimagining—one that challenges tradition and celebrates diversity\, authenticity\, and artistic evolution. \nRediscover the guitar.  Reimagine the stage. Feel the power of the feminine sound. \nThis concert will feature Classical Guitar with the talents of Marisa Sardo: \nDATE: Thursday\, January 15th @ 7:30 PM (doors open at 7 PM) \nTICKETS: General Admission $35\, Student $20\, and Pay-what-you-can $0 + \nVENUE: Bijou de la Vida Gallery \nADDRESS: 390 Commercial Street\, Boston\, MA 02113 | North End \n  \nPurchase Single Tickets to this Concert \nThis year we are offering a season pass to all three of our Artist Series concerts for $125/person\, which includes VIP reserved seating\, which you can purchase by clicking here. \nWe are also offering the opportunity to sponsor an artist or sponsor one of the three concerts. Please reach out to Will Neely at wneely@nempacboston.org or 857 239 9997 if you are interested. \n  \n\n\n\n\nABOUT MARISA SARDO: Since being awarded in over 20 international competitions\, Chicago-born guitarist Marisa Sardo has emerged as one of today’s most exciting young artists to see perform live.
