DESCRIPTION:Mercedes Escobar is a Boston-based Guatemalan singer-songwriter performing Latin Americana. From playing bars in Guatemala since her early teens\, until a chance encounter changed everything – when a fan in the audience encouraged her to apply to Berklee\, leading to a scholarship opportunity. After graduating with honors in 2024\, she quickly earned a nomination for Latin Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards. Her upcoming album (fall 2025) features collaborations with multiple Grammy-winner Gaby Moreno\, blues icon Joe Bonamassa\, Fabiola Mendez and Luis Conte. Mercedes has been featured in acclaimed Guatemalan film soundtracks including Tremors (2019) and Cadejo Blanco (2022). DESCRIPTION:NICÓH is a vocalist\, percussionist\, and producer. With variety being the core of her musicianship\, she often describes her work as she would a grocery store: a collection of ingredient allsorts\, packaged in vibrant\, childlike whimsy. Refreshingly inspired\, she combines a multitude of musical influences\, from Latin folk and Celtic\, to drum & bass and pop punk. \nBeyond her independent artistic endeavors\, NICÓH is a professor at Berklee College of Music\, her alma mater from which she graduated with Summa Cum Laude as a dual major—in Contemporary Writing & Production\, and Music Production & Engineering. DESCRIPTION:Part of NEMPAC’s collaborative new Artist Series\, Pearl Scott’s Sink into Me concert is inspired by Social Justice Movements with music influences of Nina Simone\, Esperanza Spalding\, and India Arie. She will intersperse poetry and quotes between songs in the program that reflect upon her life and experience as a black artist and military veteran. \nThis concert will feature R&B and Jazz\, and the talents of the following artist: \nPearl Scott: (Voice and Guitar) \nDATE: Friday\, April 18th @ 7:30 PM to 9 PM \nVENUE: City Winery Boston | Haymarket Lounge \nADDRESS: 80 Beverly St\, Boston\, MA 02114 \nTICKETS: Click for Tickets! \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n\nABOUT PEARL SCOTT: Originally from Indiana\, Pearl Scott currently lives in Boston\, MA. She spent four years as a vocalist in the U.S. Army Bands stationed at Fort Liberty\, NC\, and Fort Knox\, KY after receiving a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. Accomplished in her songwriting and performance capabilities\, she has been working actively to develop various recording projects including original music. She has an album and multiple singles available for purchase/stream. Follow on Instagram @pearlscottmusic and view her website pearlscottmusic.com.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n     \nGabriel Stillman\nSaxophone\nGabe Stillman grew up in Milton\, Massachusetts\, where he studied clarinet with Linda Poland (New Bedford Symphony Orchestra) and saxophone with Bill Vint (John Allmark Jazz Orchestra). He then pursued a bachelor’s degree in music education from Illinois Wesleyan University\, where he studied clarinet with Roger Garrett (Peoria Symphony Orchestra)\, and jazz studies with Dr. Tom Streeter and Dr. Tim Pitchford. After graduating\, Gabe served a four-year active duty tour in the US Army Band at Fort Bragg in North Carolina\, before coming back home to Boston and joining the 215th National Guard Army Band of Massachusetts while pursuing a master’s degree in materials science and engineering at Boston University. He is now a Sargent First-Class in the 215th Army Band and works as an engineer for the US Department of Transportation. Gabe’s favorite ice cream is Cherry Garcia and he rarely bowls above 100. \n \n\n     \nJon Polit\nPiano\nJon is a native Bostonian\, multi-instrumentalist\, and recovering clarinetist. He’s been a fixture of the New England music scene for the past 15+ years\, playing everything from multi-stage folk festivals to intimate chamber music concerts. Though his current focus is jazz piano\, he strives to incorporate this breadth of experience to each new project. \n \n\n     \nWill Mabuza\nBass\nBorn in Somerville\, Massachusetts\, bassist William Mabuza has dedicated his time and passion into the understanding and development of jazz\, Soul music and contemporary art. His heroes include the likes of John Coltrane\, Miles Davis\, Cecil Taylor\, and all of those who desired to push music beyond the conventional limits of what was thought possible. As a 2023 graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music\, William has studied under the mentorship of notable artists such as Cecil Mcbee\, Dave Holland\, Nasheet Waits\, and Jason Moran\, among others\, in pursuit of his own musical prowess and evolution. Choosing to speak the musical tradition through jazz and free improvisation\, he hopes to one day carry the lineage of those who inspired his journey. \n \n\n     \nMark Valdes\nDrums\nMark Valdes is a drummer\, educator\, and composer based in Los Angeles who has performed at venues and festivals across The United States sharing the stage with world-class artists such as John Daversa\, Poncho Sanchez\, Bob Mintzer\, Barbara Morrison\, Gordon Goodwin\, Wayne Bergeron\, and Vardan Ovsepian.
