Accomplished in her songwriting and performance capabilities\, she has been working actively to develop various recording projects including original music. He then pursued a bachelor’s degree in music education from Illinois Wesleyan University\, where he studied clarinet with Roger Garrett (Peoria Symphony Orchestra)\, and jazz studies with Dr. Tom Streeter and Dr. Tim Pitchford. After graduating\, Gabe served a four-year active duty tour in the US Army Band at Fort Bragg in North Carolina\, before coming back home to Boston and joining the 215th National Guard Army Band of Massachusetts while pursuing a master’s degree in materials science and engineering at Boston University. He is now a Sargent First-Class in the 215th Army Band and works as an engineer for the US Department of Transportation. Gabe’s favorite ice cream is Cherry Garcia and he rarely bowls above 100. \n \n\n     \nJon Polit\nPiano\nJon is a native Bostonian\, multi-instrumentalist\, and recovering clarinetist. He’s been a fixture of the New England music scene for the past 15+ years\, playing everything from multi-stage folk festivals to intimate chamber music concerts. Though his current focus is jazz piano\, he strives to incorporate this breadth of experience to each new project. \n \n\n     \nWill Mabuza\nBass\nBorn in Somerville\, Massachusetts\, bassist William Mabuza has dedicated his time and passion into the understanding and development of jazz\, Soul music and contemporary art. His heroes include the likes of John Coltrane\, Miles Davis\, Cecil Taylor\, and all of those who desired to push music beyond the conventional limits of what was thought possible. As a 2023 graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music\, William has studied under the mentorship of notable artists such as Cecil Mcbee\, Dave Holland\, Nasheet Waits\, and Jason Moran\, among others\, in pursuit of his own musical prowess and evolution. Choosing to speak the musical tradition through jazz and free improvisation\, he hopes to one day carry the lineage of those who inspired his journey. \n \n\n     \nMark Valdes\nDrums\nMark Valdes is a drummer\, educator\, and composer based in Los Angeles who has performed at venues and festivals across The United States sharing the stage with world-class artists such as John Daversa\, Poncho Sanchez\, Bob Mintzer\, Barbara Morrison\, Gordon Goodwin\, Wayne Bergeron\, and Vardan Ovsepian. DESCRIPTION:Please note this concert is SOLD OUT! \nPart of NEMPAC’s collaborative new Artist Series\, Vanessa Naghdi\, Fred Springer\, and Sepehr Davallou will present Persian Songs Old + New\, a concert featuring well-known Persian songs as well as new and contemporary songs by Persian composers. This concert will amplify the voices of this underrepresented group\, bringing awareness\, understanding\, and the celebration of different cultures. \nThe beauty in Persian culture is that it spans centuries of time—and throughout its history—has been connected to all generations\, both in the past and now in the present. Vanessa Naghdi is half-Persian and much of her family is from Iran.  Sepehr Davallou is an Iranian citizen living and working in Boston\, having just finished graduate studies at New England Conservatory. There is a sizable Persian community in the Boston area who greatly appreciate and support the arts\, music\, and literature\, as these areas of artistic expression are so much a part of Persian culture. The melodies and texts presented in this concert will present beautiful songs that can be connected to—and understood by—anyone and everyone\, bringing together different people from diverse communities. \nBy presenting this concert at the Bijou de la Vida Gallery\, owned by Iranian art collector Ramin Khoshatefeh\, these artists will present an immersive experience surrounded by many pieces of Persian artwork. She holds a Master’s of Music in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston\, MA. \nSome of her favorite roles to date are The Sandman from Hansel and Gretel with NEC Opera and Despina from Così fan tutte with Chicago Summer Opera. \nJustine\, a classically trained Soprano\, also prides herself on being a versatile singer\, performing in many genres ranging from musical theater to pop to jazz.  In recent years\, Justine has enjoyed singing with various wedding bands across the East Coast and writing and performing music of her own. She also debuted the role of Rosie in At Love’s Hearth\, a musical thesis project written by Stephanie Hollenberg\, Harvard alum. \nJustine’s teaching studio consists of 40+ students of all genres and ages. She holds teaching positions at Amy Dancz Music Studio and North End Music Performing Arts (NEMPAC). \nWhile not singing\, Justine enjoys yoga\, dancing\, baking\, and trying new restaurants with her husband\, Eli. \nJuan Suarez (Baritone): \nBaritone\, Juan Suarez\, is a well established performer in the Boston area\, performing frequently with organizations such as Odyssey Opera\, MassOpera\, Opera Del West\, Boston Opera & Zarzuela\, and the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. \nNotable engagements include world music premieres with Catalyst new music in collaboration with Poet Todd Hearon and Composer Jonathan Mitchell; and with Sparks & Wiry Cries in New York City\, premiering an original poem set to music by Composer Laura Nevitt. Juan can also be heard singing in the chorus of Boston Modern Opera Project’s Grammy nominated recording of The Lord of Cries\, written by composer John Corigliano and librettist Mark Adamo. \nRecent and Upcoming engagements include performances as bass soloist in G.F Handel’s Messiah \, an upcoming role debut as Falke in Johann Strauss’ comic Operetta\, Die Fledermaus\, and his third consecutive production with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras in their performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Grand Opera\, Don Carlos.\n \nJuan holds Music Degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and Stetson University. \nMariangela Gominho (Soprano): \nMariangela Gominho\, Soprano\, is a singer and voice teacher based in Boston\, Massachusetts. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Duquesne University and Master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. \nDuring her undergraduate studies\, she performed as Suor Genevieve in Suor Angelica and covered the role of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas\, as well as participated in programs at the Franco American Vocal Academy and New England Conservatory’s Summer Opera Studio. \nAs a language lover\, Mariangela has experience performing in various languages\, from Portuguese to Tagalog to Icelandic. In 2016\, she was the first music performance major to receive the prestigious Honors Endowed Fellows Grant at Duquesne University. With the grant\, she studied Icelandic folk and classical music in Iceland and presented the pieces in a public lecture-recital. \nMariangela is the music director of St. Benedict’s Parish in Somerville\, and holds teaching positions at Winsor School\, Cheverus Catholic School\, and Amy Dancz Voice Studio. She also maintains her own private studio. \nWhen not making music\, Mariangela enjoys crafting\, traveling\, and dragging friends to spin class. \nSepehr Davallou (Pianist) \nSepehr is a pianist and vocal coach based in Boston. He has served as an assistant music director for the production of Gluck’s Orfeo at NEMPAC\, and worked as pianist on such productions as Britten’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Miami Music Festival\, “Die Fledermaus” and “Die Zauberflöte” at NEC and also Maryland Opera Studio. \nPassionate about text\, poetry and artsong\, he has appeared on five Liederabend series at NEC spanning repertoire from Mozart to folk and contemporary music. \nHe has attended the Aspen Music Festival\, “Dandelion Opera Institute”\, and “Collaborative Pianist Institute” where he got to work with renowned artists such as Martin Katz\, and Warren Jones. \nSepehr has a BM in Piano Performance from University of Tehran\, an MM in Collaborative Piano from University of Maryland and a Graduate Diploma in Opera Coaching from New England Conservatory.  His mentors are Cameron Stowe\, JJ Penna\, Tanya Blaich and Rita Sloan.
