Jacob Whitchurch

Eliot Band Brass Instructor

Jacob Whitchurch holds a bachelor’s degree in music composition from the University of Utah and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in music composition from Boston University. Although his main area of study is composition, he has continued to develop personal musicianship in trumpet performance, music education, and conducting.

Jacob graduated from American Fork High School in 2013 after studying under John Miller and went on to study music at both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. During that time, he was privileged to perform in many of their large ensembles and to study under the tutelage of many experienced teachers. Upon graduating, he continued pursuing a career in music and worked as a public-school music educator, private lesson teacher, and conductor. Currently, Jacob is working towards a master’s degree at Boston University and is enjoying being part of the diverse and talented music scene in Boston.

As a composer, Jacob has also been extremely privileged to work with talented musicians, directors, and composers in having his pieces performed live. Notable premieres include Nexus for Wind Ensemble, The Lost Star Princess for solo Eb Cornet and Brass Band, Colors Upon the Sea for Symphony Orchestra, Legio Romana for Wind Ensemble, and In That Day for Symphony Orchestra. Jacob aspires to compose great music that inspires and heals.

In his free time, Jacob enjoys working on custom Lego creations, playing new and interesting video games, nerding out about Star Wars and Lord of the Rings lore, and spending time with family and friends.
