PROGRAM POLICIES 2016-2017 (Updated February 6, 2017):
The following outlines NEMPAC’s Program Policies for all classes and lessons. Please review carefully before the start of programming. By signing the consent on our registration form, you are agreeing to all NEMPAC Policies outlined below.
We require new and returning students to register for each session, unless you are a Private Music Instruction Student that opted for rolling registration in a previous session. You may opt for rolling registration during any session, which registers you for the remainder of the academic year. Registration is only accepted through our online system. If you have a problem registering, please call or visit us during our scheduled office hours, Monday – Friday 9:00 – 5:00 p.m.
2016 – 2017 Registration Deadlines:
Fall Session – September 12
Winter Session– January 2
Spring Session – April 3
Summer Session – June 1
Rolling Registration: Students may opt for rolling registration which will automatically enroll you in the entire academic year. This is often done in the Fall Session, but can also occur for the Winter Session. You will be invoiced automatically before each session begins. It is the responsibility of the student to provide two-weeks notice before the session start date to withdraw. Failure to provide sufficient notice will result in a $50 processing fee, and the loss of the assigned lesson slot. Students will be charged for any unexcused absences that result from a failure to notify NEMPAC of a withdrawal.
NEMPAC will bill all customers for payment after online registration is received. Registration is not complete until payment is received. All invoices are sent electronically through our e-Invoice system. If you fail to receive one within a 48 hour window, it is your responsibility to call or email NEMPAC right away. Along with class fees, the following fees may apply:
- Pick-Up’s: NEMPAC is able to offer pick-ups at the Eliot Lower School. NEMPAC instructors are responsible for picking up and/or returning students to after-school programs at Champions. Parents must review all pick-up protocol for this option. $50 Pick-Up Fee applies for each session.
- New Students: Any new student must pay a $25 registration / processing one-time fee for any classes and/or lessons.
- Late Registration Fee: A $15 late registration fee is applicable for any registrations that we receive after the registration deadline. If you wish to join a class after the session start date please contact NEMPAC Administration so we can let you know if there is space available.
Payment Options: Payment may be made online through your e-invoice via credit card, bank transfer or you can mail a check to NEMPAC. You may also call NEMPAC at 617.627.2270 or visit us, and we will run your card directly. Deadlines are below:
-Payment is due by the first day of the given session. Late payments will result in a $15 late fee charge, which will be added one week after our payment deadline and will accrue monthly. Lack of payments may result in discontinuation of classes or lessons at the discretion of NEMPAC.

–Payment Plans: If payment cannot be made up front, payment plans can be discussed and scheduled. Please contact Administrative Assistant, Mary Cross, at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your payment options.
-Sibling Discounts: NEMPAC offers a sibling discount of 10% to families with 2 or more students enrolled in our programs. Students must be under the age of 18. This discount applies to both the PMI program and the class program. The discount will be applied to the lesser cost program.
–Early Childhood Program Sibling Discount: Additional siblings in Family Music Makers, Drum and Sing or Meet the Instruments will receive 50% tuition for the additional child. Not applicable across programs.
-Scholarship: NEMPAC has a need-based Children’s Scholarship Fund. Interested applicants must request an application from NEMPAC and are required to submit financial documentation to be considered for this. Please contact Educational Program Director, Manda Shepherd, at email@example.com to learn more.
If you wish to join lessons mid-session, please contact NEMPAC. We are happy to pro-rate lessons for you upon entering late. If you wish to join a class mid-session, please contact NEMPAC. We can advise you if there is space available for you to join, and will pro-rate the class if available. Please note that we cannot pro-rate classes before the session begins, or due to absences. Some performance-based programs do not accept late enrollment, including Kids Music Theatre and Music Theatre Troupe.
Cancellation / Refund Policy
Students will receive up to a 50% refund on any class or lesson withdrawal after the payment deadline. Formal notification of a withdrawal must be submitted to the NEMPAC office. No refunds will be given for withdrawals after the half-way point of the given session. Withdrawal due to health issue or unexpected critical circumstance, NEMPAC administration will make decision whether a full refund or credit will be approved.
Early Childhood Program
Students are able to make up one class per session and attend another offering of their choice. This includes Family Music Makers and Drum & Sing. The make-up classes must be completed in the 10-week session you are currently in, or registered for.
Private Music Instruction (PMI):
24-Hour Notice and Missed Lessons
You must give your instructor 24 hours notice of a cancelled lesson for it to be considered excused. If the lesson is not cancelled with 24 hours notice, the absence will be considered unexcused. Please note that you are permitted one excused make-up lesson per session, and further cancellations will not be given a make up lesson. Unexcused absences will not be granted a make-up lesson. Unfortunately, if you miss a Group Private Instruction lesson, the instructor cannot offer you a make up lesson. If you miss a lesson due to special circumstances, please contact NEMPAC directly.
If an instructor misses a lesson, NEMPAC will schedule a substitute instructor or the regular instructor will make-up the lesson during make-up week or before the current session is completed.
Typically, there is one week set aside for make-up lessons at the end of each session. You will not be charged additionally for a make-up lesson. There will be no make-up for missed make-up lessons, either excused or unexcused. Excused weather related absences will be made up by the instructor, and will not count towards your one make-up lesson.
Weather Related Closure
Weather related closures will be made up by the Instructor for Private Music Instruction. Classes missed due to weather related closures will be made up during the make-up week at the end of the session. We follow the Boston Public School calendar for all snow day closures.
NEMPAC operates on a quarterly program calendar – Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer Sessions. Our classes are usually 10 weeks in duration. Private Instruction ranges from 8 – 12 weeks dependent on the quarter. We follow the Boston Public School calendar for all holiday and snow day closure. Our website class calendar is a good reference for class schedule and will be updated regularly. Session start and end dates are highlighted below:

All performances will be arranged by NEMPAC administration or class instructors. Generally our classes with ages 4+ include an end of the session performance or family & friends ‘share-days’. Those class performances are arranged by the class instructors, please contact your instructor for more information. The private music instruction students can participate in two recitals during the year: winter and spring. These performances as well as outreach performances are organized and communicated by NEMPAC administration.

NEMPAC hosts classes in various locations in the North End and Charlestown. It is important to notice on the class /lesson description on the website where your class is meeting.
-PMI Lessons are held at the NEMPAC Building on the Prado, St. John After School Program, Eliot Upper School, 9 Hull Street in North End, Charlestown Working Theatre, and Warren Prescott.
