SUMMARY:Jazz in the Park - Debo Ray
DESCRIPTION:Debo Ray is a Grammy-nominated singer and composer whose music blends joy\, authenticity\, and emotional depth. \nRaised in the Boston area by Haitian immigrant parents\, she found belonging through music after struggling with identity. She began performing at age four in Haitian churches and later trained at the Handel and Haydn Society\, New England Conservatory Prep\, and Berklee College of Music\, where she developed her signature “sound weaving” style. \nNow performing in five bands and singing in 37 languages\, Debo has collaborated with artists like Bobby McFerrin\, Esperanza Spalding\, and Terri Lyne Carrington\, and appeared at Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center\, and the Hollywood Bowl. She is also a voice professor at Berklee\, mentoring the next generation. \nGrounded by bodybuilding and focused on original work\, Debo’s mission is to create music that fosters joy\, connection\, and release. \n“This album marks a change in my creative life. After many years of interpreting the music of others\, I decided to put my life\, in all its complexity\, out there in hopes that others might feel some of the same things and we could connect\, and maybe I could bring some joy and peace. It’s been a bit daunting as I’ve always been reluctant to be too “out there” with my feelings but very rewarding thus far\, and I’m changing for the better in many ways as a result.” \nHer music invites listeners to embrace their uniqueness and find joy in sound. \nRead more about Debo Ray \nPERFORMANCE DETAILS:\nWhen: Thursday\, July 30th from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM\nVenue: Rose Kennedy Greenway | North End Parks\nAddress: Corner of Cross Street & Hanover Street\nFREE! \n \nExperience the magic of live jazz under the open sky with NEMPAC’s Jazz in the Park series.
