NEMPAC and the Old North Church Foundation have partnered again for a very special, love themed, opera night. Our second annual opera concert once again proved that the North End is a highly dedicated, opera loving community and no blizzard will prevent them from coming to hear their favorite pieces of music sung by some of Boston’s finest young singers!
The program included scenes and arias from some of opera’s most beautiful works, including “Dunque io son”, from Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, sung by NEMPAC’s Sherri Snow and Seth Grondin, “Che Gelida Manina” from Puccini’s La boheme, performed by Old North Church’s Sal Atti, “ Connais-tu le pays” from Thomas’ Mignon, sung by NEMPAC’s Rebecca Rapoport-Cole, and even a group number, “Va, pensiero” from the Verdi masterpiece, Nabucco. An additional special feature of this concert was a performance by Kristina Riccio, a young soprano and advanced NEMPAC student. Kristina’s performance was a striking reminder of how committed and talented the NEMPAC student body is! Thank you, Kristina! The concert was a fitting tribute to Valentine’s week, and to the passionate, love driven operatic literature.
After the concert, our enthusiastic audience joined in for a festive reception to meet and greet the singers, as well as share their feedback from the concert. As always, the North End community is a dynamic, arts loving group, and fully celebrates the North End music scene.
NEMPAC wants to thank all the singers for sharing their talents, the NEMPAC board members, and community volunteers for their help with the set up and organization of the concert, Coconuts Boston, Carmen Trattoria and the Golden Goose for their generous donations and sponsorship of the reception, and, of course, a huge thank you Steve and Lisa Ayres of the Old North Church Foundation for collaborating with us to make these events possible. Lastly, thank you to you, our terrific audience!
