Youth Digital Lab

Youth Digital Lab

North End: Wednesdays at 3:25pm

Age: 8-12

Fall registration opens June 8th!

Youth Digital Lab (previously “Make a Beat”) invites students ages 8–12 to explore the fundamentals of music production and digital music-making in a fun and supportive group setting. Designed for both complete beginners and returning students, this class encourages creativity, collaboration, and musical exploration through hands-on technology and guided instruction.

Students will learn how to create original beats, melodies, harmonies, and songs using beginner-friendly music technology tools such as Soundtrap, GarageBand, and other digital audio workstations and multimedia programs. Along the way, students will develop listening skills, musical creativity, problem-solving, and confidence while experimenting with sound, rhythm, recording, and digital composition. Returning students will have opportunities to build on familiar concepts through more advanced projects and creative challenges appropriate to their level.

Class time includes a balance of guided instruction, creative projects, collaborative activities, and individualized support to help students learn at their own pace while exploring their unique musical ideas. The course will conclude with a presentation of students’ original musical works.

The fall session runs September 16 – December 2, 2026 in the North End.
