The Paper Orchestra Program is a student’s first encounter with both their instrument and participation in a performing ensemble. The students will go through this program from Monday to Friday for 4 hours a day to complete this introductory program. During that time they learn each part of their instrument, proper posture, regular care, and basic techniques like bow holds, rest and ready positions, and so on.

Our vacation week program is offered to students between the ages of 4 and 9, (Grades K – Grade 3). They will be broken up into age groups during the Musicianship and Instrumental Technique segments of the day. (see daily schedule below)
“The paper orchestra is more than a vehicle to learn about one’s instrument, it is a full performing ensemble. Once the instruments are complete, the students learn songs that demonstrate their new knowledge. During this period of the paper orchestra program, they also learn to follow simple conducting patterns, and perform their songs as a group.” – Quote from the El Sistema Minnesota Paper Orchestra Program
Our instructors will include David Hurtado (El Systema / NEMPAC Instructor & Cellist), a Longy School of Music Teaching Artist, one instructor from the Boston Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
