What Is the NEMPAC Opera Project?
The North End Music & Performing Arts Center Opera Project was founded in the Spring of 2012 by two NEMPAC instructors, staff members, and trained Opera Singers, Sherri Snow and Rebecca Rapoport-Cole. Together, these two young professionals sought out an opportunity to serve our artistic community of singers, instrumentalists and artistic staff, as well as the general public by providing affordable opera in urban Boston.
We have sought to challenge the boundaries of what a theatre space “has” to be by using exclusively non-traditional spaces. Last year, we took the provocative work of Bizet’s Carmen to St. Paul’s Cathedral in downtown Boston, and also provided a community outreach performance at ChristopherColumbusWaterfrontPark. This year we take Mozart’s “Cosi Fan Tutte” to one of Boston’s most historic halls, “The Great Hall” at Faneuil Hall, which has been sustained in the heart of downtown Boston since 1742.
While we’ve seen the benefits of creating opera outside of a theatre, with this comes an array of expenses.
Why We Need You!
The NEMPAC Opera Project continues to sustain itself by the support of our local community, audience, neighbors, friends, colleagues, and the list goes on. With this support, we can continue to produce Opera. EVERY donation counts, including the $5 you would spend on your morning Starbucks Latte.
What if We Raise More Than Our Goal?
If we raise $5,000, we will have $2,000 to invest in our next project in 2014!
What Exactly Do We Need These Funds For?
These funds will go directly to cover our production costs. This includes costume pieces, set pieces, professional sound for our FREE community park performance at ChristopherColumbusPark, and professional lighting design in Faneuil Hall.
What Will You Get in Return?
ANY donation helps us reach our goal and we will make sure you are recognized! We value all of our supporters. See the list below for donor levels and rewards.

Why NEMPAC?
NEMPAC’s mission is to provide affordable, quality, arts programming to the North End / Waterfront and Surrounding Communities of Boston. NEMPAC supports this Opera Project because we support the opportunity for our students, community, and faculty members to be involved in an accessible, affordable, and high-quality performing art. Our students are given the opportunity to learn about classical music, our faculty members inspire their students by performing in our orchestra, and our community is influenced by classical music, which is the source and influence of all styles of popular music today.
