NEMPAC is proud to welcome Jonathan Hess our newest percussion teacher. Jonathan has performed with Opera Boston, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Musica Viva, the South Dakota and Rochester (MN) Symphony Orchestras, and the Marsh Chapel Collegium, as well as local and national broadcasts on WBUR, NPR, Minnesota Public Radio, and Drive105 (Clear Channel). Equally in demand behind a drum kit, he has shared the stage with artists such as Lady Antebellum, Nickel Creek, and Indigenous.
A dedicated educator, Jonathan is a teaching artist for the Community Music Center of Boston and is a percussion instructor at Lynnfield High School. He is also a founding member of the Minnesota based AxialAge ensemble and the Boston Percussion Group.Ever a student of global traditions, Jonathan recently traveled to Ghana for intensive study with xylophone masters Bernard Woma and Edmond Tijon. Other teachers include Nancy Zeltsman (marimba), Kevin Watkins, Dave Hagedorn, Samuel Solomon, and Keith Aleo (percussion), John Grimes (timpani), and Gordy Knutson (drum set).
