The North End Music & Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) awarded $2,500 in Music Scholarships this past weekend at the 2014 NEMPAC Vocal Competition held on Saturday March 1st, 2014 in the North End. The scholarships were funded through a restricted gift from the Salvatore & Maria Pizzi Family Foundation. The audition panel heard over twenty singers who are Massachusetts residents enrolled at a full-time Undergraduate or Graduate Music Conservatory. The winners were measured based on vocal merit, interpretation, and overall presentation in their audition.
Under-Graduate Music Scholarship Winners:
1st Place: Camille Sherman, Mezzo- Soprano – Boston Conservatory 2015
2nd Place: Patrick McGill, Baritone – Boston Conservatory 2014
Encouragement Award: Christiana Jamroz, Soprano – Longy School of Music of Bard College 2015
Graduate Music Scholarship Winners:
1st Place: Katrina Galka, Soprano – Boston University 2015
2nd Place: Alexandra Whitfield, Soprano – Longy School of Music of Bard College 2014
Encouragement Award: Ji Eun Park, Soprano – Boston University 2015
NEMPAC is proud to support higher education in music and congratulates the winners and all who auditioned! “We are thankful to the Pizzi Family Foundation for providing financial support to the music students who will help preserve classical music in their generation” says NEMPAC Executive Director, Sherri Snow. The winners of this scholarship will be showcased in NEMPAC’s Summer Concert Series, to be announced in the Spring.
Scholarships will also be awarded through NEMPAC’s Third Annual Opera Project 2014. The project will feature a full opera production of Strauss’s “Die Fledermaus” in The Great Hall of Fanueil Hall to be conducted once again this year by Dr. Tiffany Chang. The production is scheduled for Friday, June 27th and Saturday, June 28th and will also feature a free outdoor community performance in the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park generously sponsored by the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park on June 29th.
