NEMPAC Summer Fun Music Workshops on the Prado are BACK!
July, 7 2016 (BOSTON, MA): The North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) is happy to offer for the fifth consecutive summer it’s free educational and interactive music workshops on the Prado! Workshops begin next Tuesday, July 12th and will continue until Tuesday, July 26th. NEMPAC teaching artist, artistic director and Eliot School Music Director Stefano Marchese is leading each workshop with a focus on music theory and appreciation. The music topics each week will parallel NEMPAC’s Summer Concert Series programming which is happening every Thursday Night in July at the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park.
Music Workshops on the Prado are open to children and adult of all ages. Please see the schedule and more information below. This special summer program is funded by the Boston Center for Youth and Families Summer Fun Grant Program supported by Mayor Martin J. Walsh.
Schedule: 
Dates: Tuesday’s July 12th, 19th and 26th.
Times: Two Workshops:
- Workshop ONE: 9:00 – 10:00 a.m ages 8 and under
- Workshop TWO: 10:15 – 11:15 a.m. ages 8 and older
July 12th: Learn Music’s basic elements! We will explore the three basic elements in music (rhythm, harmony and melody) through games, audio and written examples. We will focus on Swing music to follow the theme of the concert of the week featuring Eight to the Bar
July 19th: Lesson focus on music notation and ear training. We will explore the basics of music notation through games, audio and written examples to develop the ear training. We will focus on Italian music to follow the theme of the concert of the week featuring Scanzonatti
July 26th: Improvisation and circle singing. We will explore the basic elements of improvisation through games, audio and written examples involving call and response. We will focus on Celtic music to follow the theme of the concert of the week featuring The Ivy Leaf. Guest artist: Somer O’Brien.
