What are your plans for the summer?

As you think about what the next couple of months will look like, we hope that our Jazz in the Park Series is on your list of adventures!

After cancelling our jazz music festival last summer because of the pandemic, this year’s concert series is even more special to our NEMPAC family. When we return to the Rose Kennedy Greenway later in July, we’ll have the opportunity to listen to diverse artists together and experience accessible, high-quality performances in community with one another.

Mark your calendars for all four performances at our free, outdoor concert series:

Tuesday, July 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Sissy Castrogiovanni, Grammy Nominee and Berklee College of Music Faculty Member

Tuesday, July 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Fabiola Méndez Trio, Led by Fabiola Méndez, Cuatrista and Composer

Tuesday, August 3, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“After a tough year that forced us to suspend this festival, Jazz in the Park is back,” said Stefano Marchese, Artistic Director for NEMPAC’s Jazz in the Park Series. “Since my first season directing the series back in 2017, I have aimed to take audiences on a journey worldwide through the inclusive and diverse model that jazz music represents. This year, however, had to be different, special, and groundbreaking. During the pandemic, a series of events made me reflect deeply on my privileges and on the experience of being a foreign artist in this country. For this reason, I decided to dedicate this series to women, to all the women of the world, to remind our Boston community of their strength, artistry, creativity, and professionalism.”

As a performing arts center, we transform iconic Boston landmarks like the Rose Kennedy Greenway into nontraditional concert venues. This transformation empowers us to creatively bring live music to you and your family, connecting you and your loved ones with world-renowned artists. This year’s concert series, complete with an all-women, Grammy-nominated lineup, is no different.

“Jazz in the Park creates opportunity for artists to perform in an area of Boston that attracts people from all over the state, as well as tourists from all over the world,” said Stefano. “The Greenway, with its beauty and its perfect balance between nature and art, which provides incredible enrichment to the Downtown area, is the ideal location for this series. The artists will have the opportunity to meet their followers and fans, and the community will have the chance to spend memorable nights with decorated artists.”

Jazz in the Park is a family-friendly series that aims to reacquaint happenstance passersby and audience members alike to the joy and the magic of live music! We invite you and your loved ones to make this free, outdoor jazz festival a series of adventures. A romantic date night with your partner. An evening in downtown Boston with friends and neighbors. A picnic with your children and extended family members. Whatever you decide, we can’t wait to experience the transformative power of the arts together as a collective.

“Jazz in the Park seeks to represent musically what a community should look like: many different voices on the same stage that together result in beautiful and unique harmonies,” says Stefano.

Join us for beautiful and unique harmonies from a star-studded lineup of all-women artists at the Rose Kennedy Greenway this July and August. The music from this year’s Jazz in the Park Series will play in your head long after the performances and stay with you as a soundtrack to your summer!
