Rafael Natan (they/them) Performs original classical punk music around Boston using the name “Flight Or Visibility.” They also serve as the founder and artistic director of School of Arts and Social Justice Boston. An experienced youth educator, they previously worked at Boston Children’s Chorus, Boston Public Schools, and Wholetone Music Academy. Teaching and performance tours have also brought Raf to Europe, Canada, South Africa, and the Republic of Georgia. Classically trained in both the oboe and the violin, Raf loves to expose students to Klezmer, Jazz, Blues, and other improvisational genres. Raf is best known for their debut music video, “My Name (is Joanna),” a celebration of Queer power using animation and live-action. They hold a BM in Oboe Performance and an MM in Contemporary Improvisation (now called “Contemporary Musical Arts”) from New England Conservatory, where their teachers included Carla Kihlstedt, Eden MacAdam Somer, Hankus Netsky, Joe Morris, and John Ferrillo.
