NEMPAC’s pop-up Opera on the Prado will feature Boston-based Emerging Artists from the NEMPAC Opera Project in Boston’s most historic and beautiful park in the North End. Located on the freedom trail, next to the Paul Revere Statue and just behind Old North Church, passersby, neighbors, and friends can catch singers performing. On Saturday, July 22nd you can see soprano, Aurora Martin, and tenor, Leo Balkovetz perform Opera on the Prado from 1 PM to 3 PM. Ristorante Lucia is sponsoring this summer series.
Aurora Martin is quickly becoming known throughout New England for her colorful, full soprano. She recently joined the ensembles of Boston Baroque and Boston Lyric Opera. Aurora collaborates regularly with Odyssey Opera, The Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra the Arlington-Belmont Chorale, Opera del West, and Opera on Tap. Aurora Martin was named a semi-finalist in the prestigious Partners for the Arts 9th National Opera Competition. She joined Opera Company of Middlebury as a 2021 Young Artist, covering “Agnès Sorel” in The Maid of Orleans. Solo concert performances include Haydn’s Harmoniemess Hob. XXII/14, Satie’s Socrates, Mahler’s Das Knaben Wunderhorn, Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, and Fauré’s Requiem. Operatic highlights include Pamina, Micaëla, Miss Silvertone, Noèmie, Liesgen, and Mieke. Aurora holds a MM from The New England Conservatory and degrees in Music and Chemistry from Virginia Tech.
Leo Balkovetz (tenor) Is a performer of operatic, choral and chamber music in the Boston area. In 2018, he graduated with a Master’s of Music in Historical Voice Performance from the Longy School of Music where he sang the role of Vaguas in Vivaldi’s Juditha Triumphans with Early Music group Eudaimonia. He has also performed in La Sonnambula (The Notary), Fidelio (1st Prisoner) and the world premieres of You Reap What You Soul (Guy) and Bedbug (The Reporter) with Promenade Opera Project and the world premier of NIGHTTOWN (Buck Mulligan) with Lowell House Opera. As an oratorio soloist, Leo has performed across the state in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Beethoven’s Mass in C. You can also find him at open mics or on social media as @yaboileonidas!
